Miss Jemima Essilfie with stage name Jemi, the contestant who represented the people of Esuaso, a suburb in Tarkwa has been adjudged Miss Western 2021 winner.
Shama’s Emmanuella Atta Affanie (Ella) who is also a teacher emerged as the first runner up with another representative from Tarkwa New Atuabo, Illona Addae (Illona) coming as the 2nd runner up and Loretta Adjoa Amissah (Lohtte), a teacher and representative from Adiembra taking the 3rd runner up position.
A consistent performer, Jemi had been winning plaudits with her performances throughout the 13 weeks the show has been running. She won the People’s Choice on Ten occasions, Most Innovative and Most Versatile once each.
This year’s event started with 16 delegates from various parts of the Western region after auditions in Nzema, Tarkwa, and Takoradi. After 12 weeks of rollercoaster performances, 10 out of the 16 delegates made it to the finale. Unfortunately, one of the 10 finalists, Lordina couldn’t show up for the event because of some academic issues which were beyond her control.
The finale which came off at the Grace Angel Auditorium on Saturday 31st July at the Takoradi Library saw top-notch performances from the likes of Kofi Kinaata, Ewuraba Eesi, Zeekay among talented musicians and dancers from the region.
Winning the ultimate prize, Jemi took home the crown, the car and received GHC 5,000 as her cash prize. 1st runner up, Ella walked home with a refrigerator and cash prize of GHC 3,000. 2nd and 3rd runners up also took home GHC 2,000 and GHC 1,000 each and 32” Televisions respectively.
The six delegates who progressed to the final stage of the competition for the night all won various awards. Jemi won the Most Talented, Ella won Most Creative, Illona won the Most Fashionable, Lohtte won the Most Eloquent, Abigail won Miss Catwalk and Achiaa also won Most Congenial.
Coincidentally, Jemi and Illona are old students of the Huni-Valley SHS. Jemima Essilfie completed in 2020 and Illona Addae in 2018. This shows that real talents abound in the school. The school can be found in the Prestea/Huni-Valley Municipal.
The CEO of Ex-One Entertainment, Mr. Isaac Mensah has disclosed that the Miss Western 2021 contest has been the most competitive ever since the event came into being because everyone who made it to the finale was a favourite to win.
“We were able to bring this to a successful end with the help of our judges and solid team that I have,” Mr. Mensah added.
Jemi becomes the third Miss Western queen to be crowned and she unseats last year’s winner, Miss Edith Eghan who represented the people of Shama.
It was a night of glitz and glamour as fans at the auditorium and viewers at home were thrilled and entertained by the region’s good music and rich culture.
